AUTISM SOCIETY-DAYTON, OHIO CHAPTER 5K WALK/RUN FOR AUTISM

Saturday, April 24, 2010

Please help us welcome our honorary walk chair, Nick Drennan. Nick is 14 years-old and the author of "Super Botley and the 100 little monsters made out of ink". We are very proud to have Nick help us start the walk and to be an inspiration for those with autism and those who care for someone with autism. The sky is truly the limit!

About us:
We are a chapter of the Autism Society of America, an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff.

We support over 8,000 individuals living with autism in the Greater Dayton area, and their families, as a 501(c)3 non-profit. ID: 20-5769495

Funds raised through this walk/run STAY LOCAL to help local families.

With the funds raised we provide:
-Grants for education, recreation, camp, therapy, and medical care for individuals with autism
-Family-friendly events
-Educational workshops for educators, practitioners, and families
-Monthly support groups
-Referrals for educational options, medical care, and more
-Coming in 2010: Social groups for youth and teens on the spectrum

ABOUT AUTISM: Autism is a complex neurological disorder characterized by difficulties in communication and socialization. It is more prevalent than childhood diabetes, Muscular Dystrophy, and Childhood cancer combined. It affects an estimated 1 in 91 individuals. There is no known cause for autism and no cure. Treatment options are available and early intervention is key to lifelong success. With the right intervention and supports, individuals with autism can live a fulfilling life embedded within in their community, have meaningful employment, have friends, and live semi-independently. Some even attend college.

Your support allows us to help families get the intervention and supports their loved one with autism needs to live a happy, meaningful life. Thank you!
